Step 1: Double-Check Gate Measurement

When making your opening for the placement of your vinyl gate, make sure it is 1 ¼ inches wider than the actual gate you are using. This will allow room for the hardware.

Step 2: Assemble Gate

The gate will need to be put together according to manufacturer standards. It can come in a preassembled state, set to the particular height the fence is your are purchasing.

Another way to create a vinyl gate, since you are already in the midst of this grand project, is to cut it out of other unues panels, or follow the gate assembly kit that is with the fence when it ships directly to your project space.

Step 3: Gate Hardware

All holes for where the latch and hinges will be placed will need pilot holes drilled into them so there is no splitting. Leave around ¾ of an inch of room between the hinge pin and the gate’s edge, when marking the screw holes.

After making pilot holes, use screws to secure the hinge to the rail.

Step 4: Alignment

Make sure that where the hinges will be located will align the bottom of the gate with the bottom of the fence.

Line the gate rails with the fence post rails in your prefered position. This is where your level will also come in handy.

TIp! Try holding the gate in place with 2x4s or bricks if you are doing the vinyl gate installation alone.

Step 6: Gate Handle

Hold the gate handle steady on the gate’s of edge. Make sure the position is exact and attach it with screws.
